Current Traditions of Astrology

Current traditions are actually the main traditions of astrology that are typically used by modern astrologers. Oftentimes, they are preferred by modern astrologers because of their specific and straightforward teachings and principles.

At present, there are three classified traditions that belong to the current traditions of astrology:

Vedic astrology pertains to the ancient Indian system of astrology. It’s also known as Indian astrology or Hindu astrology. Basically, it is similar to the Western astrology in terms of ancestry and nature; as being horoscopic. Like the Western astrology, it focuses on the casting of an astrological chart or horoscope, which is mainly a representation of celestial entities and events based on the specific position of the planets for the time being.

Western astrology on the other hand, is a system of astrology which originated in Mesopotamia during the 2nd millennium BC. Basically, it is the main system used in the Western countries. And like the Vedic astrology, it is largely horoscopic, therefore focuses mainly on horoscope for all of its assumptions, predictions or the like.

Finally, the Chinese astrology, is a tradition that is so rich in distinct principles. Basically, this tradition strongly suggest that the twelve signs of the zodiac do not actually divide the sky, but rather the celestial equator. At the same time, it also suggest that every sign corresponds to one of the twelve “double-hours” that govern the day as well as to one of the twelve months in a year. In addition, every zodiac sign is associated to an element in Chinese cosmology and is believed to rule a particular year.

So far, among the three current traditions of astrology, it is the Chinese astrology that has many versions. In fact, it has almost the same version in Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Thailand and other Asian countries; with just some minor alterations.
