Moon: The Planetary Ruler of Cancer

Many of us are familiar of the Moon that gives light during the night, when the sun is actually out and cannot be seen anymore. Or the Moon with various phases, waxing and waning in appearance in a constant cycle. But, the Moon being one of the oldest, major planets in the Western astrology – in a way is not so familiar to some people.

Well, astrologically speaking, the Moon is one of the oldest and major planets. It is actually the planetary ruler of the sign Cancer. In Western Zodiac, it is represented by the hunter goddess, Diana, and is considered as the the earth’s companion satellite, even though there are some astrologers who regard it as a planet that goes separately and distinctly.

The Moon in Astrology

In astrology, the Moon depicts vulnerability, and receptivity. At times even associated with something as a person’s rhythms, memories, emotional make-up, moods, and unconscious habits.

As well as the ability of one to react and adapt to those around them, or with the mother, maternal instincts or the urge to care, the need for security.

The zodiac sign like Cancer being ruled by the Moon typically characterizes the inner child within us, and at the same time who we are in the past rather than how have been up to the present moment.
